Counseling
Often when I recommend counseling to patients they express concern about talking to a “shrink” or they think counseling is only for “crazy people”. Patients imagine that counseling is like lying on a couch talking about your dreams while an older bearded man doodles in a notebook. That is not modern counseling! At Eagle Health and Wellness we are happy to have Maralee Hubble, MA, LCPC, LMFT on the team. She integrates the most modern counseling approaches into her practice.
Modern counseling is based primarily on cognitive behavioral therapy. In this form of counseling, you and the counselor focus on identifying misperceptions we all have of the world and of ourselves. Once you identify your dysfunctional thoughts and beliefs, you can work to change them. By changing how you perceive the world and yourself, you can improve how you think, feel and behave. You can develop ways to cope with the stresses of your environment. This form of therapy is structured and goal oriented. Most people respond in a short number of sessions. There is great evidence that this form of counseling works for depression, anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, insomnia, bipolar disorder, addictions, and family and marital dysfunction.
